our approach

Why work with Calverts?

print

Print buyers come to Calverts for four main reasons - our creativity, quality, expert advice and track record in sustainable printing.

We have proper conversations with our clients, to help them realise their print ambitions - from fairtrade teaching tools and low carbon travel guides to art and science comics and high end books. There's almost no print idea we can't turn into reality.

We have a hard-earned reputation as 'green' printers. We're always investing, learning and sharing what we know about every aspect of low environmental impact communications.

And Calverts worker co-operative business model means we're able to improve continuously, by putting our money into state-of-the art repro and printing hardware, software and training - instead of paying dividends to outside owners and shareholders.

All this adds up to higher quality, higher impact print; timely delivery - and a better print experience.

Nottingham Contemporary

Pics11Nov09 001Pics11Nov09 002 Today Calverts delivered 2,440 copies of the catalogue for a major 1960-1968 retrospective of David Hockney's paintings and drawings.

Subtitled 'A Marriage of Styles', the book was designed in an elegant and efficient B5 (240mm x 170mm portrait) format by Sara de Bondt Studio, and printed on three different post-consumer recycled papers - Revive 100 Uncoated 120gsm (100% recycled) for the text, Evolution Satin 150gsm (75% recycled) for the colour plates and Tullis Russell's Trucard Recycled 0 Felt 280gsm for the cover.

We used Bio vegetable oil (soya and linseed)  litho printing inks throughout.

The cover was debossed with a tipped-on colour plate, printed on 170gsm Evolution Satin.

The Hockney retrospective runs alongside a first UK solo exhibition of the work of Los Angeles contemporary artist Frances Stark, and marks the full opening of the new Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery this Thursday, 14th November.

We printed and bound the catalogue for the Stark exhibition - also designed by Sara de Bondt - on Revive Pure White Offset 80gsm and Evolution Satin 150gsm, with a blind embossed cover on the same Trucard recycled material as the Hockney catalogue.

We have a very limited number of file copies of both books, which we'll post to you if you contact us with your name and address.
