our approach

Why work with Calverts?

print

Print buyers come to Calverts for four main reasons - our creativity, quality, expert advice and track record in sustainable printing.

We have proper conversations with our clients, to help them realise their print ambitions - from fairtrade teaching tools and low carbon travel guides to art and science comics and high end books. There's almost no print idea we can't turn into reality.

We have a hard-earned reputation as 'green' printers. We're always investing, learning and sharing what we know about every aspect of low environmental impact communications.

And Calverts worker co-operative business model means we're able to improve continuously, by putting our money into state-of-the art repro and printing hardware, software and training - instead of paying dividends to outside owners and shareholders.

All this adds up to higher quality, higher impact print; timely delivery - and a better print experience.

Design and print affect the environment. Calverts has therefore implemented an environmental management system to the requirements of ISO 14001 to reduce our negative environmental impacts.

We are committed to comply with or exceed the requirements of environmental legislation and other environmental initiatives to which we subscribe. We are also committed to the prevention of pollution and continual improvement.

Our objectives are to:

1) Reduce our carbon emissions

Latest prints from NoBrow

NoBrow_Blog

Independent graphic art and comic publishers NobrowPress are having a real purple patch at the moment, with a flurry of autumn launches. Four of them have just been finished at Calverts. Hildafolk by Luke Pearson and Temporama by Clayton Jr. are part of the 17x23 series, featuring the work of talented young graphic novelists. The wonderful Colour Me Menagerie by Jon Boam, a NoBrow regular, will be on press this week.

NoBrow Magazine 4 is a blockbusting compendium of specially commissioned illustration and artwork. Reproduced and printed with Bio vegetable oil based inks in mono black and 3 pantone colours (one of them a fluorescent), and as with editions 1 to 3, the work stretches boundaries in all directions - creative, imaginative and technical. Some of it is breathtaking.

All the new NoBrow books are printed on FSC certified papers. The Magazine is printed on Munken Pure, a premium grade uncoated sheet from Sweden much appreciated by designers for its tactility and subtle 'oyster' shade. We had to bully Robert Horne into getting a special shipment of paper from the mill - the suspicion being that NoBrow themselves had effectively cornered the market, by buying all Europe's merchant stock of Munken for A Graphic Cosmogony, their new casebound book. These publications and many more are available from the NoBrow website and shop in Great Eastern Street, London. It's a true emporium - full of perfect presents for lovers of graphics and stories of all ages. We're proud to work with NoBrow, who are at the forefront of 'the new publishing'. And we love doing this kind of work, because it gives us the opportunity to deploy every technique we know in the service of great creative print. If you know anyone who would appreciate the Calverts approach, please ask them to get in touch.
