Standards & certification

Design and print affect the environment. Calverts has therefore implemented an environmental management system to the requirements of ISO 14001 to reduce our negative environmental impacts.

We are committed to comply with or exceed the requirements of environmental legislation and other environmental initiatives to which we subscribe. We are also committed to the prevention of pollution and continual improvement.

Our objectives are to:

1) Reduce our carbon emissions

2) Reduce the impact of paper use on natural resources

3) Improve resource efficiency and recycling

Digital Printing

Norwich postcard book

The call came out of the blue, late on a Friday afternoon: "Our printer has let us down. We need our final year project printed and delivered by Tuesday".

With no weekend work planned we needed to print something fast and special.

Come Monday afternoon we had printed and auto-collated 300 copies of this 98 page postcard book on our BizHub 8000 digital press.

The postcard book is an interesting format. Not quite a perfectbound book, the individual postcards are glued loosely into the spine and can be removed individually leaving the remainder of the book intact.

For the paper we used 250gsm Cyclus Offset throughout, printing with our wax-based Simitri toner which provides oil-less fixing to the paper at lower temperatures - giving an enhanced color image, with lower energy costs and a significant reduction in the amount of dangerous gases released into the environment.

Finally the books were hand-glued and bound with a cloth spine to produce a beautiful, practical portfolio piece for the students on the BA (Hons) Illustration course at Norwich University College of the Arts.
