Sustainability in print
Great recycled and FSC papers from Tullis Russell
Like Calverts, Tullis Russell is an employee owned company. Based in Markinch, Fife, it is one of the last independent UK papermakers, and a firm with a remarkable history.
TR aims for nothing less than a durable, sustainable future for UK papermaking. They make a range of high quality FSC certified and recycled papers for high quality print and packaging applications, including Trucard 50:50, Think 4 and Revive 100 Uncoated - all favourite papers of Calverts for quality andenvironmental impacts.
Sion and Oz from Calverts recently took six London-based designers and print buyers on a two-day mill visit, hosted by TR's Nick Shepherd. We are all trying to change the way people think about sustainable print, design and paper - Sophie Thomas from Thomas Matthews, design journalist and publisher Anna Gerber, Luke Nicholson of More Associates, Octavia Reeve from the RCA, Caroline Clark of Three Trees Don't Make a Forest (she also runs the Lovely as a Tree website), and Nat Hunter from Airside had an extraodinarily useful, enjoyable and productive trip. We came away with a better understanding of the papermaking industry and the issues it faces, but also had the opportunity to debate pathways to a sustainable future for the print design, printing and paper trades. http://www.tullis-russell.co.uk/papermakers/
